Description: The Chula Vista Literacy Team provides one-on-one and computer-assisted literacy services to English-speaking adults in Bonita, Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, San Ysidro and South San Diego. Their services for adults include tutoring, computers, writing classes, and workplace literacy. They also provide a youth literacy program for children in grades 3 - 6, and family literacy programs focusing on parents and children.

Description: The International Rescue Committee provides literacy services for women and children who are political refugees. Their programs include English language instruction, life skills training, family literacy, homework help, and small group literacy activities. Their programs are located in East San Diego and El Cajon. The IRC also includes the Students Plus Program which is a voluntary, year-round after-school program designed to support youth with their academics and provide an array of enrichment activities including informal mentoring, educational field trips, a photography class, newcomer tutorial, girls group, college prep, CAHSEE prep, and games.

Description (two sites; boys and girls): Since 1996 the Juvenile Court Book Clubs have provided a forum for juveniles in the court school system to share books and develop reading skills. Monthly at each site 20-25 club members gather with adult volunteers to discuss a wide range of literature. The books serve as a springboard for discussions on personal issues important to participants. In addition to the book club, the L*AC member also instructs residents at the juvenile halls, as well as the Door of Hope center for expecting mothers, in basic literacy and reading.
