CEO's Message: Reaching Goals and Beyond
After five-years of work with a statewide literacy coalition and a regional one, I find myself in the role of CEO for one of the most prestigious non-profit organizations in San Diego County. I am happy to be a part of a team of committed staff, Board Members, and service providers.
While The San Diego Council on Literacy has made progress in enhancing the availability and quality of literacy services in our community, there is much work that needs to be done. Most whom need literacy services are not being served. Those who need help and want it should know where to find it and should have all the support necessary for reaching their goals. We will continue to be actively engaged in making this happen.
One source of pride for us is the 22 amazing literacy program partners who are known in our circle as The Literacy Network. The network's commitment to genuine collaboration is vital to the visible and resourceful literacy campaign that results in meaningful success to those literacy students who receive instruction.
From the mouths of literacy students, we can present our best case for why we are doing what we are doing. From these we hear how, for these students, life was difficult, fatigue and frustration became motivators, and new-found confidence made all things possible.
Ask us about these testimonials AND about our new publication, "The State of Adult Literacy in San Diego County." With the data enclosed, we document the need for literacy services in San Diego County, and we equip local literacy advocates with information they need to make the case for greater support of literacy efforts in our community.
Through literacy, we make all the difference in the world, one person at a time. Through literacy, we walk the pathway to healthier families, communities, and businesses. We have that much at our reach...and beyond.
We must, we can, and we will do more.
