Uniting the Community to Support Literacy

With your support, the San Diego Council on Literacy (SDCOL) serves as our community’s center for literacy activity. In this position, the SDCOL advocates for support of new and emerging literacy organizations. It convenes its 33 affiliated programs to enhance access to quality of services for residents. 100,000 residents receive services annually.

The SDCOL and partners are narrowing the resource gaps that contribute to low-level literacy skills. Among its achievements, the SDCOL and its partners take pride in securing and distributing over 400,000 books to local children since 2020. These books were valued at $4 million.

• $26 sends a book by mail, every month for one year, to a local child, age 0-5.
• $50 helps to cover the cost of SDCOL referral services.
• $100 contributes to outreach for recruitment of literacy tutors and other volunteers.
• $250 supports activities that are sponsored by the SDCOL for affiliated programs: Read and Romp, book festivals, development of reading spaces for families in transition, and more.
• $500 covers costs associated with providing professional development opportunities for literacy program personnel.
• $1,000 contributes to providing service-related personnel for book give aways, management of the Imagination Library program, replenishing of Little Free Library stations, and more.

Imagination Library Donation

 

Imagination Library Donation

The San Diego Council on Literacy is an Imagination Library partner. For one year, every month, Dolly Parton's "Imagination Library" mails a book to children who are registered in the program. The books come at no cost to the child's family. Eligible children are between the ages of 0-5.
